Violence against women and girls with disabilities

What is it?

Women and girls with disabilities are very often affected by violence. During their lives, they often experience violence in institutions for the disabled and during care. Women with disabilities, however, very rarely make use of counselling and support services.

Women and girls with disabilities are affected by many forms of violence: sexual, physical, psychological and also structural violence. They often experience gender-specific violence together with violence and discrimination based on their disabilities.

Women and girls with disabilities are much more likely to be affected by different forms of violence than the average female population.
