Prevention

If you experience digital attacks it is not your fault. There are, however, some ways of forestalling digital violence in advance or of preventing particularly severe attacks. This, of course, does not apply to all forms of digital violence.

It is thus vital to be well informed about the possibilities and risks involved in the new media, and to be aware of the risks when publishing and disclosing personal data. This may include various strategies, amongst others:

  • non-disclosure or changing Internet passwords;
  • clear agreements regarding the use of private pictures (e.g. after a separation);
  • firmly opposing the publication and use of unwanted pictures or films;
  • encrypting data
