Violence against women and girls with disabilities

Perpetrators

Perpetrators are to be found anywhere in the women’s environment, they come from within the families, institutions, the therapeutic-medical field, schools, the field of recreational activities and the working area.

97% of the perpetrators are men; most of them are known to the women. They are fathers, stepfathers and foster fathers, caregivers, bus and taxi drivers, instructors working in sheltered workshops and coresidents in the homes. The women concerned are often emotionally or physically dependent on the perpetrators. The proximity with caregivers facilitates boundary violations and abuse.
